What Metro East businesses need from IT

Illinois law and the defense supply chain add requirements that businesses across the river in Missouri do not face.

  • Biometric timeclocks and BIPA. Fingerprint and face-scan timeclocks fall under the Illinois Biometric Information Privacy Act, which requires a public retention policy and written consent before collection. An August 2, 2024 amendment made repeated scans of the same person by the same method a single violation and confirmed that electronic signatures count as consent. Liability remains, so it pays to know which systems collect biometrics, where that data is stored and who can reach it. Legal questions belong with your attorney.
  • Defense contractors near Scott AFB. Cybersecurity Maturity Model Certification (CMMC) requirements began phasing into Defense Department contracts on November 10, 2025. Contractors that handle Federal Contract Information or Controlled Unclassified Information need to meet Level 1 or Level 2 requirements, and Level 2 certification assessments are performed by authorized third-party assessment organizations. A Cybersecurity Risk Assessment is a practical first look at the gaps.
  • Illinois breach notification. The Illinois Personal Information Protection Act requires notice to affected residents after a breach, and since January 1, 2020, notice to the Attorney General when more than 500 Illinois residents are affected. Businesses with sites on both sides of the river may also owe notice under Missouri law.
  • Healthcare facilities. Inzo is West-Com's exclusive nurse call distributor in Illinois, so Metro East hospitals, clinics and senior care communities can use one team for nurse call and the network beneath it. See nurse call in Illinois.
